A measles outbreak is sweeping through Portland, a hotspot for the anti-vaccination movement, and neighboring Clark County in Washington state.
Clark County Public Health has declared a public health emergency, reporting at least 23 confirmed cases and seven suspected cases of measles in the area since the new year. At least 20 of these people are unvaccinated. Eighteen of them are young children aged between one and 10 years old.
I really try not to sound like a broken record (Igor if you edit that I will manually flatten your hump), but seriously? Do you see why you get a vaccination? Do we need to go over this all again? Apparently, some people choose to believe something made up more than they trust the science behind vaccines. I touch on information about the anti-vax bullshit in this week’s podcast, which will be out this weekend. We have long disproven the autism angle and repeatedly tried to explain to you people that choose to believe a reality star (If you can even call her that) over people who have devoted their lives to the careful research and protection of folks via vaccines. If you want to show public rage about celebrities trying to use their celebrity status to create expertise, this situation is where it is called for. Yes, they are entitled to their opinions, but their opinions are wrong (Master, there’s an old adage about opinions that fits in well here.). In most of them, people really need to focus on their ability to act and not on fake science that has no basis in reality. Yes, fake.
The anti-vax science has no actual review, and their data is not replicable. Something that is paramount in actual science, not some hokey belief. Ok? You want to more heat, the podcast is coming soon. See you then
