Just kidding, ain’t no working that crazy out. It is kinda like asking the south to be liberal again…
It’s weird going from a horrible shooting to orgasms but it is medicine and we have a lot to cover.
This is from a study published this month in the Journal of Sexual Medicine. Discussing the relationship between marijuana use before sex and sexual function and women. No, kids it is not about being easy when you are stoned.
Simply put the researchers were trying to find a better understanding of the role of the endocannabinoid system as cannabis may lead to the development of treatments for female sexual dysfunction (due to the similarities). This is an area that has been far, far under-researched. I mean that with all sincerity but, men have 3 different boner pills, better barrier protection for sex, and what seems to be more focus by medical providers.
I said before in the blog that women have some pretty complicated plumbing. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t work, is just complicated. The saddest part about all of this is that women quite often are saddled with the responsibility of contraception but rely on a man to use appropriate barrier protection to avoid STI’s. There is no “Viagra” for women with difficulties with arousal.
Here comes this study that was performed between March 2016 and February 2017 with a single academic obstetrician gynecology practice. Patients were given a questionnaire at their visit and asked to complete it anonymously and return it to a locked box after their visit. Well to start up front with the conclusion here; marijuana appears to improve satisfaction with orgasm. A better understanding of the role of the endocannabinoid system in women is essential, because there is a paucity of literature, and it could help lead to the development of treatments for female sexual dysfunction.
The study provides a fascinating insight into women’s perceptions of the effect of marijuana on sexual experience. It differs from other studies in that it is one of the most extensive studies to date and has a broader range of ages. It also differed in that it was a cross-section of healthy women presenting for routine gynecologic care, where most studies target younger patients and include both sexes. For this reason, it is difficult to directly compare the studies, because the sexual activity, frequency, and expectation of these groups may be very different. However, we believe it is essential to understand the potential effect of this patient population.
The question of how marijuana leads to these positive changes in sexual function is unknown. It has been postulated that it leads to improvement in sexual function by merely lowering stress and anxiety. It may slow the temporal perception of time and prolong the feelings of pleasurable sensations. It may lower sexual inhibitions and increase confidence and a willingness to experiment. Marijuana is also known to heighten sensations such as touch, smell, sight, taste, and hearing. Although this was not explicitly addressed in this article, according to Halikas et al., the regular female marijuana user reported a heightened sensation of touch and increased physical closeness when using marijuana before sex.
There is clearly a chemical connection that goes beyond being “high” that makes marijuana before sex decrease sexual dysfunction and improve sexual experience. Honestly, I applaud this because for far too long guys have made sex all about them. when I was in high school a popular joke was, “how long does it take a woman to have an orgasm?” The answer, “who cares as long as I get off.” Really kind of a nasty look at the truth but that is precisely how medicine and most of society treat female sexuality. If you wonder, why your female partner wants you to just hurry up and finish is quite apparent that you have fallen the category of just wanting to get off.
We had a discussion in the break room last week that started with the meme, “if men could get pregnant there would be abortion clinics on every corner just like Starbucks.” It’s right; there is no doubt in my mind that men do not give a rats ass about female sexual function, but you should.
If you take a moment to read the article, which is the research findings, you’ll see the study shows some promise but is not entirely conclusive. This is good news for women who, as I said, have complicated plumbing. It is also good news for the same women who are sexual. Better arousal and lubrication alone can reduce the pain often caused by having sex for a female. She does. Do know that about 70% of the time sex can cause physical pain for a female? It’s not that they don’t enjoy it, or that you’re magically so big (you’re not) it’s often because of a lack of arousal but more importantly poor lubrication of the vagina. There seems to be no impact on males except to lower inhibitions, which honestly most males don’t need help with (men are born horny, so are women, we just don’t know how to ask).
The bats and I are wondering what of you done to make one person’s day better today?
