Reversal of fortune?

Good news from WaPo today (Because I think we could use some):

A federal judge on Wednesday voided the Trump administration’s “conscience rule” that would have allowed health-care providers to refuse to participate in abortions, sterilizations, or other types of care they disagree with on religious or moral grounds.

U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer in Manhattan declared the so-called “conscience rule” unconstitutional in a 147-page decision stemming from a lawsuit brought by New York and nearly two dozen other mostly Democratic states and municipalities. The rule had been set to go into effect later this month.

Yes, this is excellent news, since this rule would essentially allow any religious bias on the part of a provider to be used to deny care. In other words, for the folks in the back that still don’t get it, it would let providers SHIRK their responsibility of care for some mythological belief instead of their training in science and the medicine they practice.

Yeah, I said a mythological belief. If your “beliefs” do not align with caring for someone, then you should quit and find a new career.  I hear that Chik-Fil-A is hiring all good mythological believers, and you can even be bigots because they don’t care. Hobby Lobby is hiring too for those of you that like arts and crafts.

Proposed by HHS’ Office of Civil Rights more than a year ago, the rule was designed to protect “conscience rights” of health care providers by boosting enforcement of at least two dozen laws already on the books that allow doctors, nurses, technicians, and other providers to opt-out of procedures such as abortions or gender-change procedures to which they object.

But many physician and health advocacy groups contended the rule would have disproportionately harmed certain groups of patients, including LGBTQ patients.

Damn right, it would have harmed groups of patients, and the very thought is a step fucking backward in the practice and providing of health care.  If you think any of this is a good idea, you need to take a long examination of your career choice seriously.

I am not saying that spirituality is harmful or not valid or anything of the sort.  I am saying that if your spirituality causes you to oppose doing something in your profession, then find somewhere you can. You can be very spiritual and still provide excellent care to everyone who enters your practice and do things that help, not harm them without ever waving your spirituality in their face like an unwanted penis.

If I might get biblical for a minute (ok shit here come the ten plagues, be ready), Jesus didn’t ask about what kind of person it was that he helped, he just helped them. I am pretty damn sure that even the Pope ain’t on a level that he is somehow “better” than Jesus and can adjust that standard. So how are you that holy and spiritually charged? By your ego (there, I answered it for you because it was about to stump you).  It is days like this that I sometimes miss Igor, for all the crap, in the end, he did get a lot prissier than I could ever do (figures). Here endeth the lesson.

I don’t ever try and argue the bible or religion with these idiots, because it has nothing to do with it. It has everything to do with your hang-ups, and it makes it sound so much better if you blame it on some mythological belief.  “God” does not tell you not to do it; you blame it on “God” because you are a weak-minded jerk.

Look, you don’t have to invite everyone who walks into your practice on a date with your sister or like them, but you do need to treat them with dignity and respect, not a bunch of narrow-minded crap.  It makes me wonder if you are any good at your ability to practice medicine or are you better at going to church.

In the end:

The rule was part of the administration’s broader efforts to bolster the rights of religious health providers and restrict abortion access. The administration prevailed in earlier lawsuits against a rule that barred federal family planning grants from going to providers that perform abortions, most notably Planned Parenthood, and has also cut international aid to groups that provide or offer abortions.

So, in other words, it is all about putting your mythology in front of reasonable and well-directed health care. This kind of behavior turns my stomach and honestly makes me question what any religion or spirituality is perfect for other than an excuse for you to be a jerk

Please try to be the person your mom and your dog think you are.
